About Lisa Groh

More than 3 decades of experience in home births, hospital births and postpartum care in 3 countries allowed me to expand my skills and competencies. It is important to individualize the care and support for your family’s needs.

I am fluent in German and English and conversational in French.

The Postpartum period is exciting and challenging at the same time. New parents are faced with many questions that arise as they settle into their new and very different life at home with a new baby. I am passionate about supporting families with professional, evidence based care in the precious weeks of the postpartum period and beyond, as you settle into parenthood.

I was born in Mainz, Germany, and grew up in a family of 5 surrounded by the beauty of vineyards and rolling hills of a small town in the Rheinhessen wine country. My village had 2 working midwives which inspired me to choose my profession.

I received my midwifery training at one of Germany’s oldest, prestigious schools, Ruprecht Karls University in Heidelberg ( https://www.uni-heidelberg.de/en)  , founded in 1386. I worked as a freelancing midwife in the Frankfurt Birthing Center (https://www.geburtshausfrankfurt.de/Start.html) for 4 years. My expertise included labor and birth work, prenatal and postpartum care (up to 1 year), childbirth education classes, postpartum exercise classes, lactation consultation, postpartum depression and anxiety support and bereavement guidance.

Together with my husband I moved to England, where I worked as a Senior Midwife and Team Leader of a Community Midwifery Team at the Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals Trust for 6 years (https://www.uhsussex.nhs.uk/services/maternity/). Alongside my midwifery role in the hospital and community I earned my Masters degree in Health and Social Care Education at the University of Brighton, UK, where I also taught in Nursing and Midwifery.

After the birth of our daughter in 2008, we moved to the United States and settled in Ann Arbor, Michigan where we live with our 2 cats and a flock of chickens. In my free time I love to sing with Out Loud Chorus, travel the world and relax with wool felting. We dream of retiring to Ireland.
